We have individual teams, including a drugs team who deal with patients who are withdrawing from alcohol or drugs. We have a mental health team and care workers who support our patients. Then we have primary care - so general nurses, paramedics and health care assistants. Then we have the pharmacy team – the pharmacists, dispensers, technicians, etc. So we have a very large team, and we see each other on a day-to-day basis, and we have a daily handover where we discuss anything that needs to be mentioned, including safety, which it is a big thing where we work. We have a mix of ages and genders. The youngest person is in their early 20s and the oldest person is over 60. We also have agency staff that come in to cover shifts. There are people in the team from many cultures and backgrounds. I am also part of the equality and diversity team, which has been really interesting too. There is a lot going on!
I dispense medication to patients and work with doctors, psychiatrists, dentists and nurses – people from a lot of different professions with a lot of different backgrounds. I learn a lot most days, so if something comes up that I am not sure about, we have a healthcare corridor, and I can just pop into the doctors’ or healthcare professionals’ rooms and ask the question. You are constantly being challenged. We have so many different patients with different medical needs, no day is the same.
