What I do

I am responsible for creating pipe joints, which are the connections at the end of pipes that ensure two pipe sections can be joined together to make a pipe of any length.

How I became a technician

I always enjoyed maths and the sciences at school. Maths has been especially useful in this job when I’ve needed to work out angles.

After school I got a job installing and maintaining water systems and then started my apprenticeship four years ago, which I’ve nearly finished. I didn’t feel comfortable learning at college and then launching into a career. I wanted the work experience - the hands-on training is priceless.

The best bits about working in a team

The best part is that I am always learning different things from different people. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and you learn from their mistakes as well as your own!

The most exciting thing I've achieved so far in my job

Last year I worked on something on my own and completed it with time to spare. It gave me the opportunity to use my own initiative and it gave me a great sense of achievement.

The next steps in my career journey

I would like to be a Supervisor, but I enjoy what I do now so much that I am happy to keep doing it.
