I love being able to work from the start of the process right through to the finished product. It's also rewarding to see the product I’ve made is making a difference in the transport industry and in the UK as a whole.

Divyesh's job title is Battery Technician at the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC)
What I do
I work in battery scale-up, which means evaluating new battery chemistries. My team and I try different chemistries for lithium-ion batteries, and we share that information with our customers so they can decide whether they want to go ahead with the large-scale production of that type of battery.

I really like working as part of a team because you all help each other out and support each other.
The most exciting thing I’ve achieved in my job so far
During the second or third year of my apprenticeship, I made a battery testing jig. During my apprenticeship I had to do an Engineering Higher National Certificate (HNC) and as part of this I made a jig for a big car Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), which has actually been implemented in their factory. Other people worked on it later, but it was great to see my idea come to fruition.
The next steps in my career journey
I am starting another apprenticeship with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) this September, so I will be getting my Higher National Diploma (HND) and then a degree in Engineering. That will give me the qualifications I need to be able to go down the Project Engineering route. It will be good for my CV and give me great experience.
