From ground-breaking medicines to flexible phone screens, CPI’s machines and technologies are used to grow great ideas into the big businesses of the future.

But machines are only as good as the people that look after them.
Michael works in CPI’s engineering group, and is responsible for maintaining the masses of equipment at each of CPI’s sites. The team do this by carrying out routine checks, upgrading systems and fixing broken machines.

“There are bits of similarity between the machines – the general mechanics and electronics are the same, but what they’re trying to achieve is completely different. I really enjoy the diversity…some of the kit here is bespoke, they’re the only bits of kit like it in the world!”

Since joining CPI, Michael has progressed, fast. Just one year into his Level 4 apprenticeship he was offered the promotion to Technician. Now he has his sights set on the future. “I’m really enjoying the work I do, though eventually I’d like to get a degree and move to an engineer role. But I would definitely want to do it part-time and carry on working here.”

But the number one thing Michael has learnt since starting work? Being challenged by your day-to-day work is the best way to keep interested and engaged in what you do. “Here you’re not coming to work and doing the same thing every day, you have to think. That’s what I like most.”
